Common Admission Test Exam - CAT Exam

 CAT Exam: What Is It?

Indian Institute of Management (IIM), which administers the CAT (Common Admission Test), is regarded as one of the country's top national institutions for management education and research. Postgraduate, doctoral, and executive education programmes are predominantly offered by IIMs. The postgraduate programme, which lasts two years, is IIMs' programme.

These two programmes are of the residential variety. Merit-based admission to the two-year postgraduate programmes at IIMs is subject to a stringent selection procedure that includes a Personal Interview, Written Ability Test, Group Discussions, and results from the Common Admission Test, or CAT.

The IIMs administer the CAT, a test of managerial ability, largely to assess and narrow down the pool of applicants for the postgraduate programme. The exam is computer-based, and in order to appear for it, which is held once a year, a candidate must register as required. For admission to management programmes at Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and top B-Schools nationwide, the CAT (Common Admission Test) is a national level entrance exam. It assesses a candidate's quantitative aptitude, verbal ability, data interpretation abilities, and capacity for logical thought.

Additionally, the CAT is used as a qualification standard for enrollment in business administration programmes at the country's several IIMs. The purpose of the test is to gauge a student's managerial aptitude by examining his or her communication and analytical abilities. It necessitates a three to four month period of rigorous preparation.

All graduates are eligible to take the exam. Every year, the CAT exam is typically held in November. At the testing locations, CAT is administered online. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) stated in August 2011 that they would also utilise the CAT results instead of the Joint Management Test (JMET).

Executive education, doctoral, and postgraduate programmes are offered by IIMs located all throughout the nation. The two-year, residential post-graduate programme is the program's centrepiece. Admission to IIMs' two-year post-graduate programmes is solely determined by performance on the Common Admission Test (CAT).

CAT Eligibility Requirements

In order to sit for the Common Admission Test (CAT) entrance test, candidates must be aware of the eligibility requirements and educational requirements. The national entrance test for admission to management programmes at IIMs and B-Schools across the nation is called CAT 2022.

Criteria for CAT 2022 Eligibility:

The candidates must hold a bachelor's degree from a university or other educational institution that has been incorporated by an act of the Indian Parliament or State Legislation, or that has been declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, with at least 50% marks or an equivalent CGPA [45% in the case of candidates who fall under the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Test (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) Categories], or hold an equivalent.

The proportion of marks that the candidate received would be determined using processes that have been approved by the relevant University or Institution. The equivalence would be determined by dividing the candidate's CGPA by the highest feasible CGPA, multiplying the result by 100, and confirming with any university or institution that there is no plan for converting CGPA into equal marks.

Candidates who have finished degree prerequisites and are awaiting results as well as those who are taking the last year of the Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification test are both eligible to apply. However, it should be noted that if chosen, these candidates will only be permitted to begin the programme on a provisional basis if they submit a certificate from the institution's principal or registrar attesting that they have met all requirements for a bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification as of the certificate's issue date. The certificate must be issued on or before the date specified by the respective IIM. At several points during the selection process, IIMs may check eligibility.
